Is it terribly sad or terribly wonderful that I cannot continue writing a blog entry until I've hauled out the dictionary and double-checked the spelling of my title for the day?
I made a decision today.
Nineteen years ago, when Hubby and I first started hanging our coats in the same hall closet (how's THAT for an analogy?) we had two coffee mugs. Cost a buck a piece. Don't laugh - a few years ago I wrote an essay about those mugs which earned me $1600.
Anyway. Fast forward nineteen years or so, and we have many more coffee mugs. Mugs that were gifts, mugs that were Dollar Store finds, mugs that were swag, mugs that were part of sets. Mugs. Many, many mugs. Many mugs that take up much shelf space in the kitchen cupboard.
One of the drawbacks to not having moved in fifteen years is that you really need to be motivated to clean out the cupboards.
We also have drinking glasses, although that's comprised mostly of the plastic variety, particularly the ones that come free with a kids' combo at the movies. And a few glass glasses that were McDonalds Special Editions. And I got some new glass juice glasses for Mother's Day after announcing that I was tired of serving our adult guests a glass of iced tea in a plastic cup that had Finding Nemo on the side.
The result - the cupboards are crowded. And on the few occasions when every. single. dish. in the house is clean, not even a stray coffee mug still in use in another room, the cupboards are overcrowded.
So I've decided that something's gotta give. It's time to thin out the collection of coffee mugs, particularly those ones that are gathering dust at the back of the shelf because we never quite get that far back before washing the dishes and filling up the cupboard again.
Please note: I've simply made a decision. It might be weeks before I get around to actually DOING anything about it.
