And so I turn to the wisdom of the Internets...

Having sweltered through Thanksgiving, the cold weather has now been turned on. This has led to much sorting of clothes as we prepare to "change over" our wardrobes.

Five people + small house + even smaller amount of closet space = off season clothing gets stored.

Which led once more to the annual Discussion Of Shelley's Clothing Organization Neurosis.

I have a sock & underwear drawer, which is also where belts and bathing suits reside. When I had a larger dresser, socks and underwear each had their OWN drawer, with belts and bathing suits being put in with the socks. I also have a pajama drawer. All other drawers are just...clothes. (I've mellowed in my old age)

When hubby wants to see my eye twitch, he talks about how it would be okay to NOT have a drawer just for socks and underwear, but simply put them all together, wherever they may happen to land.

Youngest mostly does things my way. Middle, who has twice as many drawers as the rest of us, has a system that I can't begin to understand.

And Oldest, who is really getting into the I'm Old Enough To Run My Own Life groove appears to store clean clothes in the hamper, dirty clothes on the chair and books in the dresser drawers.

So, dear Internets, tell me - am I crazy for believing with all my heart that socks and underwear should have their own drawer?

Comments

Socks and underwear are allowed to share drawers, but they can't share drawers with any other item of clothing. The results of the mating are frightening.

2 of us have a combined sock/underwear drawer and 2 have seperate drawers for each and 2 even has a seperate drawer for bathing suits. At least thats how it starts when I put away the laundry.

Bug and I have the same ideas...we have a drawer for socks and underware (would have their own, but lack of drawer space dictates they have to share). The boys in the house however seem to not get this. Before i learned to let the little things go, this lead to many arguments...now i am just happy when Munch's laundry makes it off his floor.

My underwear have a drawer separate from my socks. Incidentally, my bathing suit resides with my underwear, and my belts go in my closet.

Hubby has a shared socks/underwear drawer, but that is all there is in that drawer.

Young son also has a drawer exclusive for socks/underwear.

Young girls are SUPPOSED to have socks/underwear drawers. They, however, do not believe in dressers. They use your Oldest's system, which drives their mother to tears. This happens most often when clean, folded clothes end up in my dirty laundry baskets. I hate THAT.

I also hate when my oldest raids my sock drawer because she knows where I keep them, and she can't find hers because of... well, see above.

So yes, socks and underwear should not mix with other articles of clothing. So says I.

I vote yes to the socks and underwear controversy.

Although I don't know about belts and bathing suits. I store them in our guest room in a different dresser. Not too hand, I must admit, but I don't mind.

Socks and underwear should be segragated from other clothing items. It's just not natural for them to cohabitate. I can't stand when my sock and undies drawer gets other clothes mixed in. It freaks me out the same way the peas touching the carrots freaks me out.
