Decisiveness

Is it terribly sad or terribly wonderful that I cannot continue writing a blog entry until I've hauled out the dictionary and double-checked the spelling of my title for the day?

I made a decision today.

Nineteen years ago, when Hubby and I first started hanging our coats in the same hall closet (how's THAT for an analogy?) we had two coffee mugs. Cost a buck a piece. Don't laugh - a few years ago I wrote an essay about those mugs which earned me $1600.

Anyway. Fast forward nineteen years or so, and we have many more coffee mugs. Mugs that were gifts, mugs that were Dollar Store finds, mugs that were swag, mugs that were part of sets. Mugs. Many, many mugs. Many mugs that take up much shelf space in the kitchen cupboard.

One of the drawbacks to not having moved in fifteen years is that you really need to be motivated to clean out the cupboards.

We also have drinking glasses, although that's comprised mostly of the plastic variety, particularly the ones that come free with a kids' combo at the movies. And a few glass glasses that were McDonalds Special Editions. And I got some new glass juice glasses for Mother's Day after announcing that I was tired of serving our adult guests a glass of iced tea in a plastic cup that had Finding Nemo on the side.

The result - the cupboards are crowded. And on the few occasions when every. single. dish. in the house is clean, not even a stray coffee mug still in use in another room, the cupboards are overcrowded.

So I've decided that something's gotta give. It's time to thin out the collection of coffee mugs, particularly those ones that are gathering dust at the back of the shelf because we never quite get that far back before washing the dishes and filling up the cupboard again.

Please note: I've simply made a decision. It might be weeks before I get around to actually DOING anything about it.

Checking in

So, now that HP7 is behind us, we're all wandering around feeling like there's nothing to do. Just out of curiosity - do you think utility company records for this past weekend will show a marked decrease in usage, as people turned off their computers and TVs and spent days with their nose in a book instead?

Life chugs along, here at Chez Haggert. I got a free hardware upgrade from my cell phone company, so my shiny new camera/mP3 phone is currently charging. Is it awful that the most exciting thing about it, to me, is that it's pink?

Yep, that's just about all that's happening in these parts.

In case you were wondering

Page 487 is the point at which you can't put Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows down until it's finished.

It took twelve hours total to read, and at the end , I fought the urge to burst into tears.

That's all I'm saying. Go read it. Now. And then we'll talk about it.

No spoilers in the comments please - we've got to give everyone a chance to finish.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend

Baseball diamonds, that is.

If you've ever had a kid play "travel", then you know, at least in part, why you've found this space dark so often of late. Most recently, we've just returned from picturesque Stratford, Ontario. It's quite the tourist spot, reknowned for its Shakesperean productions, antique fairs and funky shops.

The baseball field at Anne Hathaway Public School is pretty nifty too. Middle's team brought home another silver medal, to accompany the one they brought home from Chatham two weeks ago. Although in Chatham they got comfy blanket throws, not medals.

I did not bring home sunburnt ears this time. Go me!

I started off the summer with good intentions, but was once again sidetracked by Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, plus a heat wave, some family issues that needed attention, and...well, you know how it goes. But here I am, butt firmly back in chair, and ready to blog once more. If you're still coming by, thanks for sticking with me. I'll try to do better.

After all, there's a whole month until the next tournament.

Silly me

The tippy tops of one's ears is quite likely THE most painful place to have a severe sunburn. Really for truly.

Discuss.
